ACCIDENT AND INJURY PREVENTION AWARD

Purpose of Award:
Recognition of a member company/department’s Accident and Injury Prevention Program.

Award Administered By:
M.S.F.A. Emergency Medical Services Committee.

Background:
In June, 1997, President C. Daniel Davis, Jr., charged the EMS Committee with the implementation of an awards program encouraging member companies to participate in year-round or special short duration programs in the prevention of accidental injury and/or death. The original program contained an extra class recognizing the efforts of those county associations providing such programs. The program was formally announced during the 1998 Convention with the first awards being bestowed during the 1999 Convention.

Projects may be submitted by a department or organization within a member department provided it is verified by the President or Chief of the department. County programs must be verified by the County Association President or Chief Officer.

The awards are presented each year at the annual convention for the following categories:

Year-Round Program or More Than One Project

(Class by population of the first due area)

Class I 0 - 1,500

Class II 1,501 - 2,500

Class III 2,501 - 5,000

Class IV 5,001 - 10,000

Class V 10,001 - or more, Volunteer

Class VI 10,001 - or more, Career

Class VII County Association Injury Prevention Program

Single Project Programs

Class I0 1,500

Class II 1,501 - 1,500

Class III 2,501 - 5,000

Class IV 5,001 - 10,000

Class V 10,001 or more, volunteer

Class VI 10,001 or more, career

Class VII County Association Injury Prevention Program

Award Rules:

1. The department/company must be a member in good standing of the M.S.F.A.

2. A cover letter on department or association letterhead is required to accompany all entries.

3. Any book entered, including scrapbooks, photo albums or loose-leaf binders cannot exceed 12 x 14.5 inches. The thickness of the book is not limited.

4. Slide/tape presentations are acceptable, but the presentation must show the complete project.

5. Photographs and newspaper clippings must be dated and sources indicated.

6. Entries must be In the hands of the EMS Committee or its designee no later than April 30 of the year submitted and must be marked with the proper entry classification (Class and year-round/single project program.)

7. All materials submitted must reflect activities of the previous calendar year (January through December.)

8. Judges shall be appointed by the Chair of the EMS Committee and the decision of the judges shall be final.

9. Any evidence of material from a previous year will automatically disqualify the entry.

Departments/Companies entering this contest must have a representative available at the time the awards are presented during the convention.
