The Recruitment and Retention Toolbox

The Recruitment & Retention Committee has started a toolbox of resources, suggestions and ideas on how you and your organziation can improve its efforts in recruitment and retention.

Please check back here often to see what has been added

We encourage and welcome your suggestions, ideas and resources that have worked for your organization.

Recruitment

Best practices and other guidance used by various organizations to bring new membership into your organization.

Retention

Ever wonder why your members don’t always stay? There are many reasons – but there are many that your organization has control over. Here are some ideas and suggestions to  improve your efforts to hold onto your most valuable resource.

Cadets/Junior Programs

Do you think recruiting only means the pool of people of high school age or older? How old were you when you first had the interest in fire trucks? Consider a program that brings in a new and earlier source of potential future leaders. Here we’ll offer  information, suggestions, and best practices for initiating or improving upon a cadet or junior firefighter program.

Administration/Leadership

Now that you’ve taken that leadership position, could you use some help? Lieutenant? Board Member? President? Chief? Or maybe you’re only thinking about taking that next step into leadership. Let’s discuss some recommendations for preparing to be a  successful leader of your organization.

Marketing

Suggestions and recommendations to help your organization improve relations with the citizens in your community. Marketing your organization is an enabler to better your recruiting and financial support efforts.

Training

Does your organization keep your skills sharp through practice? Here we’ll offer recommendations for various types of training exercises. The ideas will offer suggestions  from quick tabletop mind challenges as well as large scale drills for hands on refreshers.

Communication

Are you getting through? You may be talking but are you really getting your message across? Here are some tips and suggestions on improving critical communication – both within your leadership and membership as well as to external organizations.

Finance/Grants

Guidance on methods to apply for and obtain grants and other financial support from your community as well as corporate and government offerings.

Do you have suggestions or ideas that you are willing to share with others?
Send your ideas to    retention@msfa.org
