Barton R. House Sr. of Sandy Spring Fire Department answers his last alarm

Barton R. House Sr, died peacefully at home on Saturday April 28, 2018, surrounded by his beloved wife of 57 years, Pauline E. House, daughters Karen House-Sapp and Elaine House-Custead, son Barton R. House Jr., and his brother in-law, Raymond H Roberts. In addition to his wife and children and their spouses,, he is survived by 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Bart was born January 15, 1937 in Dighton, MA and grew up in Somerset, MA. He has lived in Potomac, MD since 1972. Bart graduated from NYU with a Masters in Operations Engineering and he is a graduate of the Naval War College.

Bart's engineering career spanned many organizations; he worked at Babcock and Wilcox, Sikorsky, Grumman and the Department of the Army at the Pentagon. He was a founding member of the Consumer Energy Commission (later to become the Department of Energy) where he was the Assistant Secretary for Environmental Protection, Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

Bart retired from Government service as Assistant Secretary to the Secretary of the Department of Interior. Bart House loved his family, skiing, flying his Cessna 182, and sailing his Islander 36, La Bonne Vie. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to St. Jude Charity or Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department.
