Obituary for Mr. Henry “Hank” L. Long III
On behalf of the Ellicott City Volunteer Firemen’s Association I regret to inform you of the passing of Past Ellicott City VFA Fire Chief Henry “Hank” L. Long, III.
Henry Lester Long III, age 74, of Sykesville, formerly of Ellicott City, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020.
Born March 31, 1946, in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Henry Lester Long, Jr. and Margaret Rebecca Turner Long. He was the husband of 49 years to Janet Louise Brown Long.
Known as “Hank” he retired from the US Postal Service after 41 years of service. He served in the Army National Guard for 39 years and was a former chief and volunteer fireman in Ellicott City for many years. One of Hank’s biggest pride and joy was taking care of his yard. Hank and his wife retired to Fairhaven Retirement Community in Sykesville five years ago.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Daniel Dean of Sykesville; son and daughter-in-law Henry L., IV and Amy Long of Virginia Beach, VA; sister Debbie Baity of Berkeley Springs, WV; grandchildren: Christopher Dean, Danielle Dean and Regan Long and great-grandchildren: Emma Dean and Austin Dean.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 1:30pm at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2150 Mt. View Road, Marriottsville, MD. A celebration of Hank’s life will be held at a later date when the pandemic restrictions are eased.
