The Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department has cancelled all events scheduled in the fire department social hall for a minimum of 30 days beginning March 14, 2020 until at least April 14, 2020. Events that are cancelled include Bingo on March 21, Lions Club Breakfast on March 22, Safe and Sane Bingo on March 27 and the Linganore Grange Bingo on April 4.

Clarence “Chip” Jewell, president of the Libertytown Vol. Fire Department, advised the action to close the social hall for at least 30 days was taken  in accordance with precautionary measures being implemented throughout the nation. ” We are implementing this action in an abundance of caution for both the public and our members.” It was also noted a large number of people that attend fund raising function at the fire hall and many of the fire department members that work the various fund raising functions are in the most vulnerable age group.

“This action will have an adverse effect on our fundraising efforts. But, as a public safety agency we must be proactive in assuring the health and well being of our membership and the public in general”  noted Jewell. The volunteer fire department will continue to monitor the situation and re-evaluate in early April.
